DocStation's BIN Billing feature allows you to submit medical claims directly from your dispensing system. This is especially ideal for billing Medicare Part B for vaccines and DME, and for billing specialty medications to a patient's medical benefit.

Getting Started

Begin by setting up a new DocStation insurance in your dispensing system. See below for system-specific instructions.

Once the new DocStation insurance is setup, add it as a coverage to the applicable patient profile. Utilize the patient's actual subscriber ID as the ID in the DocStation insurance record. For example, when billing Medicare Part B via BIN Billing, use the patient's Red, White & Blue Medicare ID as the ID in the DocStation insurance record.

When you're ready to adjudicate the prescription, select the DocStation insurance and submit. When a "paid" response is received, your claim is good to go!

Why did my claim reject?

DocStation applies validation at the switch to ensure the pharmacy claim includes enough information to create a medical claim. If you see a rejection, it could be because of one or more of the following reasons:

  • The patient address is missing

  • The patient's insurance or subscriber ID is missing

  • The NDC is missing

  • The NDC is not recognized

    • To resolve the NDC issue, reach out to DocStation via Chat or support@docstation.co to verify the NDC you are attempting to bill.

Verify that the DocStation insurance is setup correctly, and try submitting again.

When will I see the claim in DocStation?

DocStation processes data nightly, so if you submit a claim to DocStation's BIN today, you'll see the claim on your DocStation dashboard tomorrow by mid-day.

How do I know which PCN to use?

The PCN you submit will help DocStation determine which medical payer to submit the claim to. You can obtain the correct PCN from DocStation Support within a few minutes. Just reach out in the Chat!

What if I need to reverse the claim?

DocStation will allow for BIN billing claim reversals within the same day without impacting the patient record. For example, if you adjudicate a flu shot claim via BIN billing this morning, but the patient doesn't show for their immunization appointment in the afternoon, you can still reverse that claim up until the end of the day, and it will not generate a medical claim on DocStation.

It is still possible to reverse a claim that was billed on a previous day in your dispensing system, should you need to put the prescription on hold or even bill it to a different insurance. However, if the claim was BIN billed on a previous day, DocStation will have already generated a corresponding medical claim. If this is the case, and the medical claim on DocStation has not yet been submitted, simply select the "cancel" option on the draft claim to prevent it from being submitted.
